{"id":456,"date":"2011-06-06T11:07:31","date_gmt":"2011-06-06T10:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lawbird.com\/wordpress\/?p=456"},"modified":"2014-05-05T19:06:15","modified_gmt":"2014-05-05T18:06:15","slug":"darragh-macanthony-faces-court-in-spain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lawbird.com\/wordpress\/darragh-macanthony-faces-court-in-spain\/","title":{"rendered":"Darragh MacAnthony faces court in Spain"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><span style=\"font-size: 13px; font-weight: normal;\"><strong>DOZENS of expats have filed a case against Irish real estate owner Darragh MacAnthony.<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>The property mogul behind former holiday home giant MacAnthony Realty International (MRI) now faces legal action for \u2018theft by swindle and misappropriation of funds.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>It comes after 51 British and Irish victims \u2013 who claim they lost more than half a million euros in undelivered furniture five years ago \u2013 filed a claim in Madrid.<\/p>\n<p>They accuse MacAnthony, 35, of keeping 600,000 euros which they had paid him from his base in Marbella for furniture packages for homes in Bulgaria, Turkey and Morocco.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyer <strong>Antonio Flores<\/strong> of Marbella- based property solicitors <strong>Lawbird<\/strong>, also accused MacAnthony of failing in an obligation to file for insolvency for his Spanish companies.<\/p>\n<p>But MacAnthony and his former chief executives Michael Liggan and Dominic Pickering who also face action, have consistently denied any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>In a long response to the allegations posted on his website MacAnthony \u2013 who owns Peterborough Football Club \u2013 quipped he was \u2018as popular as Osama Bin Laden or Gadaffi\u2019 on Google.<\/p>\n<div><ins><ins id=\"aswift_0_anchor\"><\/ins><\/ins><\/div>\n<p>He added: \u201cI am fed up with constant unfounded allegations, lawsuits and blackmail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MRI\u2019s head office shut in Marbella last year and sources told the Olive Press that MacAnthony \u2013 who once had huge billboards up and down the Costa del Sol \u2013 was planning to relocate to the US.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators have discovered his company MRI Overseas is now owned by a 90-year-old Peruvian<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DOZENS of expats have filed a case against Irish real estate owner Darragh MacAnthony.
