{"id":853,"date":"2012-04-25T23:25:53","date_gmt":"2012-04-25T22:25:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lawbird.com\/wordpress\/?p=853"},"modified":"2014-05-05T19:06:02","modified_gmt":"2014-05-05T18:06:02","slug":"darragh-macanthony-in-court-over-mri-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lawbird.com\/wordpress\/darragh-macanthony-in-court-over-mri-claims\/","title":{"rendered":"Darragh MacAnthony in court over MRI claims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Holiday property mogul Darragh MacAnthony appeared in a Spanish court yesterday to answer charges that he never delivered furniture packs worth \u00a3400,000 to 51 customers.<\/p>\n<p>The 36-year-old Irish multi-millionaire and chairman of Peterborough United was summonsed by the Marbella criminal court after the customers filed a complaint against him and his company, MacAnthony Realty International.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyer <strong>Antonio Flores<\/strong> said the company had acted &#8220;in a disgraceful manner&#8221;, adding: &#8220;They never filed for insolvency in Spain. They simply disappeared.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Records show that the former holiday home giant moved its registered premises to a ghost office in Madrid where it was placed under the management of a non-trading Peruvian company run by a 90-year-old man.<\/p>\n<p>MacAnthony denies the accusations and has blamed the credit crunch, which forced several of MRI&#8217;s furniture suppliers to fold, and has called the legal action as a &#8220;ridiculous suit&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The Spanish judge will decide whether MacAnthony and the five other defendants should face the charges of &#8220;misappropriation of funds and theft by swindle&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Holiday property mogul Darragh MacAnthony appeared in a Spanish court yesterday to answer charges that he never delivered furniture packs worth \u00a3400,000 to 51 customers.
